Client Alert: IRS CP53E Notices & Scam Warning

We want to make you aware of recent IRS Notice CP53E mailings and related scam activity.

Most of our clients should not be receiving this notice. In the majority of cases, we have already included direct deposit information with your filed return.

If you do receive a CP53E notice, please keep the following in mind:

• Many of these notices are fraudulent and designed to collect your banking information
• Do not scan QR codes or click links included in the notice
• Do not call phone numbers listed on the notice

The IRS will not request or update your banking information through these methods.

If any action is needed, the only way to verify or update your information is to go directly to www.irs.gov and access your account.

We are also aware of situations where legitimate notices may have been sent in error, even to taxpayers who are not expecting a refund.
